The Ottawa Knights are proud to announce that Catcher/Outfielder Evan Hammond has accepted a major athletic scholarship at Monroe Community College. Hitting .405 with the Knights, he leads the team in a number of offensive categories including 2b (8) and extra base hits (11). The 5' 9", 180 pound Hammond is expected to compete for an everyday job as a freshman and will challenge for a spot in the middle of the Tribunes order. A versatile athlete, Evan will compete behind the plate and also in the outfield at the next level. Hammond was also a standout hockey and football player in high school.
The Monroe Tribunes are 19 time Region 3 champions and perennial World Series contenders. In 2008, Head Coach Mike Kelly led the Tribunes to a 3rd place berth at the Junior College World Series. Hammond joins an impressive fraternity of Knights who have launched their baseball careers at Monroe and proudly represented the Knights through the junior college ranks to the NCAA and beyond. Hammond is following in the footsteps of Mark Stuckless (Hofstra) – Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Scholar Athlete of the Year. Jamie Fitzgerald (Manhattan), Mike Tokessy (Georgia College), Steve Derouin (Central Connecticut), current Monroe pitcher Jordan Kritsch, and dozens of other Knights who have been drafted or played on scholarships throughout the States.
On behalf of the entire Knights organization and alumni congratulations Evan! We know you will do great things at the next level.
