2009-05-30

Game 1
Ottawa Knights 4 - Athlétiques de Sherbrooke 5

The Ottawa Knights 19U were on the road Saturday visiting the 2 and 4 Athlétiques de Sherbrooke at the 'Stade Napoléon Fontaine', the 150 plus fans were enthusiastic to say the least.  Ottawa's record going into the weekend in the Midget AAA league was 3 and 1, good for 3rd place overall in the 12 team league.  Game 1 of the double header saw Casey Floyd take the hill for his 2nd start of the season, Casey loaded up the bases in the 1st inning but went on to strike out the next 2 batters to get out of an early jam.  Floyd struck out 2 more in the next frame however the Athletiques scored 2 unearned runs in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 2-0 lead.  Ottawa responded with 1 run in the top of the 4th inning when catcher Evan Hammond scored on a McIntyre ground ball.  The top of the 6th inning saw the Knights score 3 runs to take a 4-3 lead, McIntyre got his 2nd RBI of the game knocking in Hammond for the 2nd time.  Sherbrooke wasn't giving up as they tied the game in the bottom of the 6th inning.  Neither team was willing to give in which resulted in extra innings, fresh back from the JUCO World Series, lefty Jordon Kritsch took the mound for the Knights.  Innings 7 and 8 saw strong defensive play with neither team threatening to score.  In the bottom of the ninth, Sherbrooke got a man on base with a walk followed by a stolen base then a hit up the middle to secure the win.  The line on Floyd was 6 IP, 9 strikeouts, 4 walks, 4 runs scored with 0 earned runs.

Game 2
Ottawa Knights 6 - Athlétiques de Sherbrooke 4

The 2nd game of the twin bill saw the Knights score one run in the top of the 1st inning when Hammond doubled over the right fielders head and a speedy Renaud scored from 1st base.  In the bottom of the inning, the Athletics scored 3 runs,  pitcher Mandzuk got out of the inning with a strikeout of the 6th batter in the order. Ryan Morissette scored a run in the 2nd, then hit a double in the next inning to drive in Will McIntyre. After 4 innings of play the game was tied at 3.  Hammond slammed his 1st Home Run of the season over the left field wall in the top of the 5th inning to give the Knights the 1st lead of the game.  Sherbrooke replied with a run in the bottom of the 5th and again the score was tied late in the game.  The top of the 7th inning saw Mike Bryne draw a walk then steal his way to 2nd, Justin Carpenter then singled to put runners at the corners with 2 outs, Steve Renaud hit a hard liner to the gap in center field cashing in 2 runs and making the score 6-4 Knights.  Mandzuk shut down the Athlétiques in the bottom of inning taking his 2nd win of the season with a complete game victory.
